Ladki Patao Abhiyaan !!
Before writing this post,
please allow me to ask you a simple question .
FOR BOYS: when you read the title of this post, did you feel something *** in your heart that made you read the post? Did you think that there might be some tips and tricks to woo a girl? If yes, then you must stick to this post.
FOR GIRLS: When you saw the title , what did you think? I leave that answer to you because I can’t even predict what you thought (and no one can). seriously!!
Fortunately, I had ample time last week .So, I was completely stuck to my TV set and watched variety of programs and in every program of 30 minutes, there were Ads for almost 15 minutes. it’s hard to say whether I was watching Ads in programs or programs in Ads.
One thing which perturbed the tranquil of my mind and made me write this post was that in every commercial, instead of selling their products, companies were marketing different ways to woo a girl. From a man’s underwear to a shaving cream: Each commercial is showing that after using this product, any girl can be yours. They are following simple formula :USE THIS PRODUCT AND GIRL WILL BE YOURS/ YE SAMAAN KHARIDO OR LADKI AAPKI. After watching all this crap, I think I may be a good Ad maker. What I have to do is to follow a simple formula:
Take a product, a girl and a boy. That boy purchases the product, uses it, show it off and what next? Girl is in his arms. All done. Ladki bhi pat gayi and product bhi bik gaya!! How simple is that.
Let’s take few examples:
1. A boy asks a girl for a lift and girl even doesn’t notice the boy. Then boy purchases a Hero Honda bike , the girl herself asks for a lift and what else the Love story starts
2. A boy goes to a beach wearing a perfume of specific company and every girl on the beach fights to get the boy. Action+love story begins.
3. A boy possesses a simple mobile, girl doesn’t bother to give a look. Then he purchases a smart phone and guess? The Girl herself approaches the boy (now hero) and ask for his number.
4. A boy applies a shaving cream of an ordinary company, none of the girls not even his kaam wali bai pays attention, but after applying the cream of specific company, every girl in locality fights for him.
5. Wear an underwear of jockey and girls will run after you to ****, I mean catch!!
These are just few examples, believe me in every commercial you will find it. I just got confused, what are they trying to do? Are they selling the product or telling the methods to woo a girl and believe me, all these methods to impress a girl are out of practice.
In fact, if we look at other angle of it, we can’t blame companies. Their motive is to make profit and they are using these methods because this is what is happening everywhere. The companies are not focusing on the product but rather on the female models and their assets. Everyone wants to impress a girl some or the other way and have one (sometimes more ) girls in his arms. It has become a status symbol these days to have a girlfriend. Anyone who doesn’t have one is considered worthless to be a boy. In some cases it has become madness to such an extent that if a girl doesn’t accept a boy’s proposal to be in a relation, that bastered doesn’t even hesitate to throw acid on the girl. And the matter is actually aggravated by these Ad companies , who are only exploiting the very nature of generation to make profit. They know the pulse, catch it and show to us what we want to see.
I discussed it with my friend and he said there is nothing wrong in it. It shows that importance of girls is growing and everyone is mad for them. It’s a healthy sign according him. I don’t know it’s healthy or not but one thing is “ONLY PRICE IS INCREASING NOT VALUE”. They are not showing girls as girls but as a commodity to whom everyone is chasing and trying to posses. Instead of beautifying the assets of a girl in the Ad, if the companies focuses on the credibility and quality of the product they intend to sell in the market they probably would not have to worry about the profits in the long run. Further, by showing a girl in the Ad as a “prize to woo” , I feel the Ad makers are only projecting that the man is probably coy, weak and lacks the balls to woo a girl without their product. Now here again a question is being raised, Do Indian men really needs to rely on these products to woo a girl?
The Ads helps men to become a symbol of power. To sale the male’s product, females are undressed. It is nothing more than exploitation or domination of male’s world for their pleasure I am not a backward looking and conservative person and I don’t like girls to be covered in veils but this is what is being shown definitely is not empowerment. It is only NSP for men NAIN SUKH PRAPTI or male gaze.In my view media and the society needs to rebuilt their ethics and raise the status of the women in the society and not degrade them as sexual toy in the Ads.
