Rumi and His experience about Life.

When I was clever, I wanted to change the world.

When I was wise, I changed myself.
                            ----Rumi

Such a beautiful thought from one of the greatest poets of all time, a Sufi mystic from Persia and a philosopher of the thirteenth century. So much deep meaning is attached to these magical words. If we ponder on this, we can get a whole sense of life itself. And if we apply this to our life, it can be far far better than it is now and we can contribute to make this world a better place. We can find the true meaning of our existence just by applying this into our life.

When Rumi was a young man, full of energy and vigor, he developed a habit of questioning everything. He was not happy with anything around him. He didn’t find pleasure and happiness in anything that was not as per his will. He wanted to destroy everything of his disliking. Rumi wanted every man on this planet to follow him and bow to him. He wanted to paint the whole world with his choice of colors only. Rumi had no respect for someone else’s perspective.

He didn’t care what others think and feel. He just wanted the world to be in an order he wanted. He was against the set rules of society. He questioned the age-old practices, be it good or bad. He never learned to appreciate anything he did not like. He wanted the sun to rise and set on his will. This was Rumi. This was a clever version of Rumi.

This never-ending thought of changing the world consumed Rumi so much that he came across so many different experiences and perspectives. Though he confronted so many things on the way, yet he started learning the importance of these things.

With experience, Rumi started feeling that changing the world is not a child’s play. The forces of the world proved themselves more powerful and started impacting him respectively. He even started realizing that the world was not so bad place to live in as he thought it was. He started learning new things and respecting other people’s perspectives. This whole process turned his anger and stubbornness into Wisdom. Rumi started looking at things differently and realized that beauty lies everywhere and it was just the view of looking at them that matters.

So, now Rumi left his desire to change the world and instead changed himself. He started enjoying life, cherished everything on his way and respecting other’s perspectives too. Rumi evolved as a better human being. When he changed his inner view, his outer world view changed.

                                                             BUT

Why Had Rumi Given Up?
Why Had Rumi Changed Himself?

There happened to be so many people across history who changed the face of the world. some of them in a better way and some of them otherwise. But the whole sum of those actions made society the way it is today. If everyone had given up the hope to change the world as Rumi did, then it would have been the same as it was before centuries. people who had courage changed it and contributed something positive.
But Rumi describes those people who changed the world positively as WISE MEN.
And those who lasted bad impact on the world as CLEVER MEN.

Rumi considered himself as a clever man in this starting days but evolved as a better and wise human being as he grew up and experienced the life around himself.
